Secret Falls Kayak & Hike

The marquee Kauai adventure — kayak 2 miles up the Wailua River (Hawaii's only navigable river) then hike ~1 mile through the rainforest to Uluwehi Falls (aka Secret Falls), a 120-foot waterfall hidden in the jungle. Swim at the base when you arrive. Guided tours include tandem kayaks, paddles, life jackets, dry bags, walking sticks, and a deli lunch. Multiple companies operate from Wailua Marina — Kayak Kauaʻi, Aliʻi Kayaks, and Kayak Adventures are the main ones. No kayak experience needed — guides give full instruction. The river is flat and calm. The hike is the real workout: muddy trails, stream crossings (sometimes waist-deep), slippery rocks and roots. Wear shoes with good traction that you don't mind getting soaked and muddy (old sneakers or water shoes). Bring: reef-safe sunscreen, bug spray, change of clothes for after, waterproof phone case.
